Rob McLeod & Davy Whippet to Attempt 2nd Guinness World Record

Two years ago, on October 14, 2012, Davy Whippet and I broke the Longest Flying Disc Throw Caught by a Dog when I threw a Frisbee 402 feet which Davy caught. Davy also became the first dog to catch a Frisbee over 400 feet. A few months later, Guinness World Records officially recognized this feat and would go on to include the record (along with a photo of Davy) in the 2014 edition of the Guinness Book. They included the record again in the 2015 Guinness Book and there was also a photo of Davy in the 2015 Ripley’s Believe it Or Not book “Reality Shock” for the same record.

On October 11, 2014, Davy and I will be attempting their 2nd Guinness World Record as a team (this will be my 6th Guinness World Record as I have 4 others on my own). This record attempt is for CANINE MTA (Maximum Time Aloft). The way the record works is that I will throw a Frisbee high and far into the air while Davy runs after it. There will be a group of timers with stopwatches and they will be timing the Frisbee from the time it leaves my  hand to when Davy catches it. The current world record is 10.14 seconds and was set in 2003 by Mark Molnar with his dog Falco.

I have been competing in MTA competitions since 2011 and competing with Davy since 2011 so this record is the perfect union between my two favourite frisbee disciplines. My ultimate goal is the MTA world record which currently stands at 16.72 seconds and was set in 1984. My best MTA in competition was 15.37 seconds last year at the WFDF World Overall Championships in Sweden and I also threw a 14.53 second MTA in June which broke the Minnesota State Record.

Davy is a superstar in the canine Frisbee world and currently holds 4 World Records and 4 World Championship titles. Davy is a purebred Whippet owned and trained by Lara Sorensen and will be turning 6 years old in November.
