Yesterday, I traveled from Calgary to Tallahassee for the 2018 US Open Overall Flying Disc Championships. I will be competing for the next 6 days in 7 events: Disc Golf, Discathon, Accuracy, Double Disc Court (DDC), Distance, Self Caught Flight (SCF), and Freestyle.
The US Open is a biennial Overall competition that brings the best Overallers together to compete in the 7 Overall Flying Disc Disciplines to determine who is the best Overaller. Each player receives points based on how they finish in each event and the player with the most points after the 7 events have completed is declared the Overall Champion.
I have been competing in Overall competitions since 2011 and this is my 4th US Open (2012 Santa Barbara, 2014 Fredericksburg, 2016 Santa Cruz).
My goal this week is to win Disc Golf, Distance, and Self Caught Flight. My two strongest events are Distance and Self Caught Flight – I am the defending World Champion in both events as I won gold last summer at the 2017 WFDF World Overall Flying Disc Championships in Basingstoke, UK.
I will be posting daily updates chronicling my results, my reflections, photos, videos, and any other updates that are available.
