I was invited back to Sunchild School for my 3rd frisbee residency; my first since 2018. The school also ordered custom frisbee fastback and custom Innova Makanis so that every single student would get their own disc to keep.
Along with getting to work with every grade at least 3 times, I also took a few classes outside where we designed a disc golf course using the previously installed disc golf baskets. The weather was perfect and the kids had a great time getting creative and helping me design a course.
On the fourth day, Sunchild celebrated the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. I was grateful and humbled to have been there. It’s terrible what was done to so many children, and consequently their families as they’ve struggled to live with the unimaginable horror. The intergenerational trauma is enormous and there is so much work to be done. All I can do is hope that I bring some hope and joy to the lives of the students who have been impacted so greatly. It really puts things into perspective and it can be overwhelming when you hear the stories and listen to the work/healing that has been done/still needs to be done.
I have to say a huge thank you to Principal Malthouse for having me back as a guest and getting to spend the week with your students and staff!
