“Frisbee Rob” Prepares to Defend World Title as Sole Canadian at 2025 World Overall Flying Disc Championships

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Calgary, Alberta] – [June 10, 2025] – Rob McLeod, also known as “Frisbee Rob,” is set to represent Canada at the 2025 WFDF World Overall Flying Disc Championships in Angelholm, Sweden. Not only will Rob be the only Canadian competitor at the prestigious event, but they will also be striving to defend their remarkable title in Self-Caught Flight for the seventh consecutive time.

The World Overall Flying Disc Championships, a multi-disciplinary event showcasing the full spectrum of flying disc sports, will bring together top athletes from around the globe. Rob’s participation highlights his dedication to the sport and his exceptional skill in Self-Caught Flight, a discipline demanding precision, athleticism, and a deep understanding of aerodynamics.

“I’m incredibly honoured to represent Canada on the world stage,” says Rob. “The World Overall Championships is the pinnacle of flying disc competition, and I’m excited to test my skills against the best. Defending my Self-Caught Flight title will be a tough challenge, but I’m excited to do my best against the wind and push my limits to bring it back home to Canada.”

While the opportunity to compete at this level is a dream come true, the journey comes with significant costs. Rob is seeking sponsorships to help offset the estimated $3,000 required for travel, accommodation, and competition fees.

“Flying disc sports are my passion, and I’m committed to pushing my limits and representing Canada with pride,” Rob explains. “Any support I receive will go directly towards making this trip possible and allowing me to focus on performing my best.”

About the Overall

Rob will be competing in all seven events that comprise the Overall. Points are awarded based on how the athlete finishes in each event and the Overall champion is the athlete who has the most points after all 7 events have been concluded. Find out more at https://wofdc.sport.

  • Accuracy – Throwing four discs from seven different stations at a standing square frame measuring 1.5 meters by 1.5 meters at 1 meter above the ground.  Each disc that passes through the frame is considered a hit.
  • Discathon – A race roughly 1km in length. The catch is that competitors carry two or three discs that are thrown alternately. A player’s disc must travel the appointed course of mandatory obstacles that must be passed in a specific direction. Players with the fastest time is the winner.
  • Disc Golf – The most popular disc sport in the world. Similar to golf, but instead of players hitting a ball into a hole, the throw a disc in a basket, with the goal to complete each hole in the fewest number of throws.
  • Distance – Players get five attempts, best one counts, and the measurement is taken from where the disc first lands not where it rolls off to.
  • Freestyle – Creativity, athleticism and a bit of gymnastics takes the field as two or three players perform choreographed routines consisting of throws, catches and moves with one or more discs
  • Double Disc Court (DDC) – Two teams of two players each and two discs. Points are scored in three ways. Disc touches the ground within the court of the other team and stays there, the other team touches both discs at the same time (two points scored), and a disc touches the ground outside the court the other team scores a point.
  • Self Caught Flight (SCF) – As with distance this one is fairly straight forward. There are two events, Maximum Time Aloft (MTA), a player aims to accumulate a maximum number of seconds between the throw and catch and in Throw, Run and Catch (TRC), the object is to accumulate a maximum number of meters between the throw and catch.
