I recently had the chance to sit down with Jeff Humphreys on The Calgary Sessions Podcast for a conversation that went far deeper than world records and highlight reels.
Yes, we talked about the 13 Guinness World Records.
Yes, we talked about Frisbee.
But the real conversation was about what happens before the records… and after the applause.
I didn’t discover flying disc until after high school. There was no early master plan. No childhood prophecy that this would become my life’s work. What was there, though, was a desire to teach. To help. To build confidence in others. Frisbee just became the vehicle.
We also talked about losing my mom when I was 18. Loss doesn’t always create a dramatic turning point. Sometimes it works quietly in the background, shaping your depth, your drive, and how seriously you take the time you have. It changes how you think about meaning.
Jeff and I explored the difference between obsession and purpose. Why do we chase the things we chase? Is it for validation? Visibility? Impact? That question matters more than most people realize.
A big theme in the episode is failure — not the motivational poster version, but the real one. Attempting something dozens of times without success. Training in empty fields. Throwing again. And again. And again. Learning that repetition, patience, and perspective often matter more than raw talent or early wins.
We also talked honestly about the gap between visibility and value. Viral moments, world records, recognition — they don’t automatically build sustainability. They don’t guarantee a career. Building something that lasts requires systems, relationships, humility, and the willingness to keep showing up long after the spotlight fades.
At its core, this conversation is about playing the long game.
Starting later than you expected.
Letting experience compound.
Redefining success around meaning, resilience, and commitment — not just outcomes.
If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s too late to start, whether failure disqualifies you, or whether the path you’re on is sustainable… this episode is for you.
Have a listen — and let me know what part resonates most.
Best Effort Always.
