I’m extremely honoured and excited to announce that Steve Mallett will be the emcee for the Frisbee on Ice event at the 2017 Silver Skate Festival. Steve, a resident of Edmonton, is a long time frisbee player, musician and entertainer. I’ve known Steve for about 5 years and there’s no one else I’d rather have!
Steve Mallett has been playing frisbee for more than 30 years. He created a version of ultimate before he even knew ultimate existed. He’s been playing disc golf for 20 years and has worked to grow disc golf in Alberta both from an organizational level and an infrastructure level. He also spent two years on a cruise ship playing piano in a trio entertaining guests and traveling the world.
In the fall of 2016, I competed in the Battle for Middle Earth, a disc golf tournament west of Edmonton. After the event, I interviewed Steve about his history in frisbee – including ultimate and disc golf – in which he shares his role in the development of frisbee in and around Edmonton.
This Saturday is looking to be a gorgeous day weather wise and the Frisbee on Ice event will be a lot of fun, and very family friendly! Come check out all of the action from 12-2pm on February 11 at Hawrelak Park during the Silver Skate Festival! Admission is free – just park and head on down to the pond!
