PLAY Calgary February 2018 Meeting

I was invited to speak at the February PLAY Calgary Meeting which was hosted at the Shane Homes YMCA in NW Calgary. Only recently opened, this is the largest YMCA in the WORLD! The meeting was slated from 1-3 which included a facility tour at the beginning, and all I can say is WOW.

Included in this artistically beautiful facility is a running track, huge gym, NHL sized hockey rink, 3 full basketball courts with curtains, a casual ice surface, a climbing wall, a swimming pool, wave pool, hot tub, lazy river, waterslide, movie theatre, library, child minding services, 3 fitness studios and multiple meeting rooms.

The place was quite busy which was really nice to see!

After the tour we moved into the Youth Centre, where the meeting was to be held. After some introductions and a few updates, I presented to the group and showed some of my frisbee videos, talked to them about my Unplugg’d Challenge, how I talk to kids about the 10,000 hour rule, and how frisbee links into and supports physical literacy so well. There were some great questions for me all about my presentation in schools, questions about frisbee, and questions about some of the programs I provide for groups.

I’m excited to spend more time with the groups and individuals who are involved with PLAY Calgary and hopefully it’ll lead to more opportunities for growing frisbee, teaching physical literacy, and getting kids (and adults) Unplugg’d!
