On September 24, 2022, Ashley Wager and I attempted six flying disc world records on inline skates at Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary.
By the end of the day, we had set all six — three each.
For me, the records became my 11th, 12th and 13th Guinness World Records. The performances were also recognized by the World Flying Disc Federation.
How Ashley Got Involved
I met Ashley at an Alien Inline summer camp where she was one of the instructors.
She spent some time throwing the frisbee, trying tricks, and playing around with different throws. I mentioned that there were some Self-Caught Flight world records on inline skates that we could attempt, and she was interested.
We trained together leading up to the event, combining her inline skating background with the throwing and catching skills needed for the records.
What We Were Attempting
The records were all based on Self-Caught Flight.
In Self-Caught Flight, the thrower also catches their own throw.
There are three main events:
- Throw, Run & Catch (TRC) measures the distance between where the disc is released and where it is caught.
- Maximum Time Aloft (MTA) measures how long the disc stays in the air before the catch.
- Self-Caught Flight (SCF) combines the distance and time results into one score.
Ashley attempted the three female records and I attempted the corresponding male records.
Ashley’s Guinness World Records
Ashley set the following records:
- Longest Flying Disc Throw and Catch on Inline Skates — 16 metres (52 ft 5.9 in) Guinness World Records
- Longest Flying Disc Time Aloft on Inline Skates — 5.28 seconds Guinness World Records
- Highest Score Flying Disc Self-Caught Flight on Inline Skates — 45.04 points Guinness World Records
My Guinness World Records
I set the following records:
- Longest Flying Disc Throw and Catch on Inline Skates — 52 metres (170 ft 7.2 in) Guinness World Records
- Longest Flying Disc Time Aloft on Inline Skates — 9.78 seconds Guinness World Records
- Highest Score Flying Disc Self-Caught Flight on Inline Skates — 105.79 points Guinness World Records
These became my 11th, 12th and 13th Guinness World Records.
Support From Alien Inline
A number of people from Alien Inline came out to Grey Eagle Casino to support us during the attempts.
It was great having people there who knew Ashley and had been part of the inline skating community we had been training with.
My friend Robert Engelbrecht also came out to photograph the attempts. Robert has photographed more of my world record attempts than anyone else and has documented a lot of my record history over the years.
A huge thanks to all of the volunteers who showed up as well – without them, this record would not have been possible!
Featured in the Guinness World Records Book
Ashley and I were both later featured in the 2024 Guinness World Records book for the inline skating records we set that day.
It was a pretty great way to cap off an event that started with a conversation at an Alien Inline summer camp and ended with six Guinness World Records.
