In early August I had the incredible opportunity to bring the joy of frisbee back to Swift Current, Saskatchewan, thanks to the inspiration of Terence, whom I met while demoing at the Windscape Kite Festival earlier in the season. During the Kite Festival in July 2024, Terence stayed at my station for the entire afternoon, captivated by the endless possibilities of frisbee—from tricks with an XDISC, to self-caught flight with a Dodgebee, and especially disc golf, with a newfound love for mini disc golf.
Inspired by Terence’s enthusiam and joy from discovering frisbee, along with the help of my friend Amanda, we organized a series of Frisbee Camps for kids aged 6-16, along with two disc golf workshops. The goal was to kickstart a joy for frisbee, create more opportunities for kids like Terence, and connect the existing community with new frisbee enthusiasts.
I also brought along Sailor the Touchdown Dog for some fun demos. Meeting Sailor was a highlight for many of the kids, adding an extra dose of excitement to the camp!
Fueled by Amanda’s passion, the community support was amazing, with local companies like Swift Plumbing and Heating, Stringam Law, and Brad Gross Wealth Advisory Group stepping up as our major sponsors.
A special shoutout to the City of Swift Current for bringing over their kids from the Summer Camp, and to all the parents who believed in our vision and brought their kids out to participate.
The energy and enthusiasm we experienced were truly inspiring, and we’re already in discussions about making this an annual event. Stay tuned for what’s to come next year!
